Good Tuesday morning to you!

The Daily Umbrella reached its first major milestone by surpassing 10,000 subscribers. Our ultimate goal is to reach 30,000, so we are one-third of the way there. You can help. If you enjoy receiving this free daily newsletter, then please share it with others and encourage them to sign up as well.

I received notes from some of you last week noting that you hadn’t received the Daily Umbrella. I followed up on each one, and those email addresses were still in the system and noted as delivered to. In a few cases, we discovered that the emails were in the spam folders of the recipients. If this is happening to you, please look there and mark the Daily Umbrella emails as not spam so they will continue to arrive in your email in-box. Most of you reading this are not having any problems, and that’s good. Don’t do anything different.

In recent weeks, we also started promoting the Daily Umbrella on social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn. This has broadened the newsletter’s reach, albeit on platforms we don’t own and can’t control — which always concerns me. So if you are viewing this on any of the aforementioned social media sites, I encourage you sign up for the free email. You can unsubscribe at any time, and, unlike those Big Tech companies, we are not collecting or selling your personal data to anyone. Ever.

Have a terrific Tuesday, and thanks for reading.

Keep on trucking: Twenty years later, Vrebac keeps on going

By Darren Tromblay

A little more than 20 years ago, Goran Vrebac and his wife, Iran, left their homeland of Bosnia for a fresh start here in the United States. They wanted less strife. They wanted a slice of the American dream.

Fast forward to 2021. Vrebac has the hood up on his blue, 2012 Peterbilt semi tractor. The front half is out in the sun, while the back half rests in his garage.

He meticulously keeps it in running order to extend its life even more. Over the years, Vrebac has logged more than 4 million miles of road time across the 48 states in the continental U.S. Whether it’s the East Coast, West Coach, north, south, he’s seen it all.
Texas is his favorite route, though, he says. From Ankeny, it’s just a short hop onto Interstate 35, and, from there, it’s straight to the Lone Star State.

“Texas has a lot of traffic, but it’s OK traffic,” he says. “And there aren’t many ups and downs on the highways. That’s good for the truck and mileage.”
