Good Wednesday morning to you!

Here is a bit of painful truth: I am a vengeful person. I am not proud of it, but I know it to be true. It is something I have to work on every day. When I feel that I am wronged by people, I want to get them back — and more. It is not a good quality. As I have grown older, I have found a few pieces of advice to be helpful.

The first is the adage that time heals. I think back to instances when I felt wronged and how angry I was. Today, those seemingly serious issues don’t mean much, and I can appreciate people for all the good they did instead of the mistakes.

The second advice is to try not to look in the rear view mirror. Move on, in other words, and focus on the future. Dwelling on the past rarely improves a situation, at least not for me. So I try to focus on the opportunities that are ahead instead of the ones that are lost. This is easier said than done, but it does work.

And finally, I have found another old saying to be true: What comes around goes around. The people who I felt wronged by are often hustling other people, too, and those actions eventually catch up with them. They have plenty of problems to deal with on their own, and my adding to them doesn’t help.

So maybe the best revenge is no revenge. Move on. Look forward. Be happy.

Have a wonderful Wednesday, and thanks for reading.

Sweethearts come back home: Buckley family transfers closer to family

By Amy Kort

About five months ago, the Buckley family started calling Ankeny “home.”

Joe, Emily, Logan, 8, and Clara, 6, along with their 12-year-old dog, Ruby, moved back to Iowa around the holidays in 2020.

“Joe and I grew up in Newton, where we were high school sweethearts,” Emily says. “We got married in 2008, and then in 2010, we relocated to Columbus, Ohio, for my role at Nationwide.”

She says they liked Columbus and Bexley, the suburb where they lived. But, in late 2020, Joe had an opportunity to join Amazon to lead finance operations in their new Bondurant fulfillment center.
