FROM KCCI: VIDEO—Miles-long crash involving 40 vehicles closes I-80 near Newton

NEWTON, Iowa — The Iowa State Patrol urges drivers to avoid traveling east on Interstate 80 east of Des Moines as a miles-long crash involving 40 vehicles has stopped traffic in the eastbound lanes near Newton. The patrol said approximately 40 vehicles were involved in the crash between Colfax and Newton in the eastbound lanes. READ MORE FROM KCCI

FROM WHO-TV 13: Governor Reynolds Promises to Find Solutions for Slow Vaccine Rollout in Iowa

JOHNSTON, IOWA — Governor Kim Reynolds said Thursday that the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine across the state has not been as “fast or easy as we’d like it to be” and that her administration is working to understand why. Iowa currently ranks 47th in the nation for doses of vaccine allocated to residents per capita. Iowa ranks 32nd among the 50 states in population. At her semi-weekly news conference on Thursday, Governor Reynolds said she continues to press the federal government for answers, and promised to question General Gustave Perna, COO of the ‘Operation Warp Speed’ federal COVID-19 initiative, in person on the phone about the allocation this week.  READ MORE FROM WHO-TV

Don't grow up!

It was Christmas morning in 1986 or so. The unwrapping had ended, and there were no more presents under the tree.

“You look a little down,” said Matt Martone’s concerned mother.

“Me?” the 11-year-old feigned indignance. “Nah, I’m fine. This is a great Christmas.”

Martone knew how hard his mom labored while working two jobs to make the ends meet. He was determined to be grateful.
