Good Tuesday morning to you!

If you haven’t noticed, Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. And if you are like most Americans, you have not bought your sweetie anything yet. But you're not too late. Approximately one billion cards are sent out for Valentine’s Day each year. You can choose from the 1,330 options that Hallmark produces annually, or you could send flowers. Of those who go the floral route, 73 percent are men. Don’t have a sweetie? Well then you may be in the 15 percent of women who send roses to themselves. Or maybe you prefer canine companionship? If so, you could be part of the 3 percent who give Valentine cards to their pets.

Whether you officially celebrate Valentine’s Day or not, it's a great time to make other people smile and feel a little better about their day. So make the most of it, and have a terrific Tuesday.

Thanks for reading.

Meet: Miss Iowa

“There was an old lady who swallowed a fly….”

How did Emily Tinsman get to be singing these lyrics while kicking off a summer reading series for kids? The same way she came to be opening Iowa’s senate session last January at the capitol by singing the national anthem.

“One of my favorite moments,” she recalls.
