In the early years of publishing CITYVIEW, we had a lot of fun with our annual April Fools edition. From the sightings of Bigfoot (Namaycush) at Gray’s Lake, to the new ABA basketball team (The Des Moines Dribblers), to the Rolling Stones announcement to play at the Val Air Ballroom (that one caused some problems), we kept our readers guessing. Some caught on right away, others fell for our ploys, and a few were downright angry. It was more than a bit juvenile, but it was fun. It was also a lot of work. Despite what some of you may think about “fake news,” making stuff up proved to be much more difficult that reporting on actual happenings. We moved on from these fun and games about a decade ago and haven’t looked back since. But with today being April 1, I was tempted for a moment to publish an April Fools issue of the Daily Umbrella. Then that thought quickly passed. You can rest assured knowing that all the content in this issue is for real, as it is every day. But you can still have some April Fools fun by pulling a few pranks on your friends and family like placing a piece of tape under a coworker’s computer mouse, filling donuts with mayonnaise, or inserting a chicken bouillon cube in the shower head. Have a thrilling Thursday, and, as always, thanks for reading.
