Good Wednesday morning to you!

If you were a child during TV’s early years, you were likely warned not to sit too close to it or you could go blind. But you probably still did, and you are probably not blind. We now know that sitting close to the TV is not dangerous, although that wasn’t always the case.   About 50 years ago, some General Electric televisions had faulty tubes that may have caused harmful radiation from something related to electrons being fired and X-rays deflecting out of the bottom of the TV set. Seriously. But that was then, and this is is now.   The truth is that you can now sit as close to your TV as you want without any permanent eye damage. Having said that, if your children are consistently sitting close to the TV, that may be a sign of a vision or hearing problem. The TV didn’t cause the damage, but it may help you discover the problem and get your child the help he or she needs. We should also all be aware that TVs (and computers, and tablets, and phones) can cause eye strain, a common condition that can lead to blurred vision, eye pain and headaches. Eye strain can be annoying, but it’s only temporary and the treatment is simple — get some sleep. Sounds like a good plan to me.
Have a wonderful Wednesday, and thanks for reading.
