Good Tuesday morning to you!

Dr. Christian was a professor who taught Spanish at Waldorf College during the 1980s. I enrolled in two of his classes and learned a great deal, but the one thing that I remember most about him had nothing to do with the Spanish language. Every day when he would walk into the classroom — and I mean every day — he would flip on the lights and say, “Do you ever notice how the room brightens up when I walk in?” And then he would laugh out loud.
This became a ritual, a “Ground Hog Day” moment. Dr. Christian made his students smile in his classroom each day beginning with one simple comment. Of course, that good-hearted nature carried through in how he taught and in how he lived his life. Thirty-four years later, I still remember him for it.
What impact do you have on others when you walk into a room? What will people remember about you decades later? Think about that today — and every day.
Have a terrific Tuesday, and thanks for reading.

FROM WHO-TV 13: Johnston School Board Approves District’s New Diversity Director

JOHNSTON, Iowa — For over an hour, the Johnston school board heard passionate remarks from parents and community leaders about a position that aims to bring equity and inclusion to students. Parents argued whether past social media posts from the district’s new diversity director were appropriate. Johnston selected Louis Fountain as the district’s new diversity director last week, and the school board made the hire official Monday night. For supporters of Fountain, the school board’s approval ushered in a new era in the Johnston Community School District.  READ MORE FROM WHO-TV

DES MOINES, Iowa — When summer rolled by and it became clear we wouldn't have a 2020 Iowa State Fair, we asked you to share your favorite fair memories over the years.
It was part of our "Happy Moments" segment, and it was one of the biggest responses we've had to any request for photos and videos. And that's not surprising, because even though we had been through a lot in the pandemic, losing the fair was unthinkable. .… READ MORE FROM WOI-DT Local 5

Given the choice, Mlekos chose Norwalk:
Military family returns to Iowa

By Rachel Harrington

Zach and Jamie Mleko know what it is like to move around. Zach retired from the U.S. Air Force about two years ago. They were stationed in Iowa about12 years ago and lived in Ankeny at that time. After that, the Air Force sent them to Texas.
“We were content and happy in Texas, but I remember thinking, when Zach retired, it might be nice to moved back to Iowa,” says Jamie. “We were happy and content in Texas. That’s where my kids first attended school after I homeschooled them. I liked the school district and the church we attended. However, this past year, a lot of what I enjoyed about Texas wasn’t enjoyable anymore because everything was closed down. It wasn’t a job or anything like that that brought us here. I’m not entirely sure what brought us specifically to Norwalk apart from God. This was the first time that we were able to choose where we wanted to live.”
